Full Trip Report
Steve, Suzanne, and Megan joined me for a snowshoe climb of Jolly Mountain on a bluebird spring day. Starting at the Cayuse Horse Camp, we hiked up Salmon la Sac Creek, initially following a snowy trail with bare patches. At 4000 feet, the snowpack got deep enough to warrant snowshoes. We continued along the ridge crest, going over Big Jolly Knoll and finishing on the very scenic north ridge of Jolly Mountain (5.7 hours + 4000 feet from car). There was 18 inches of fresh snow over an older crust. Views were great in all directions. This former lookout site is an excellent winter/spring summit!
