Full Trip Report
I did a ski trip to Mary’s Peak (formerly called Beverly Peak) in the Teanaway Mountains with Peter, Matt, Ed, Rebecca, and David. We went up the Beverly-Turnpike Trail a short distance, then up the Bean Creek Trail. We had a fairly easy time crossing the creek on small logs and rocks.
- Bean Creek Crossing
Solid snow was encountered around 5300 feet, several hundred feet below Bean Creek Basin. From the upper-west basin, three of us donned skis and skinned around a spur to reach a saddle in the south ridge; the others booted straight up to the crest, then traversed northward.
- Nearing Summit of Marys Peak
We all then continued along the crest to the summit. Views were somewhat limited by a high overcast, but precipitation never amounted to more than a few snowflakes.
- Group On Summit
For our descent, we skied down the wide-open southeast slope. This featured a smooth surface near the top, and the cool temperatures kept the snow nicely firm. A yo-yo run was warranted here.
- Matt Skiing Off Ridge
- Ed skiing off the ridge
Farther down, the snow became annoyingly textured by water runnels. We may have been a week or two past prime season in the basin, but overall, the skiing and weather were pretty good.
