Full Trip Report
I teamed up with Eileen, Fay, Lisa, Carry, Bill B, and Paul A for a snowshoe ascent of Salvation Peak in the Lower Skagit Mountains. To approach, we drove up Bacon Creek Road to an abandoned spur road just short of a bridge over Bacon Creek.
From our cars, we walked up the spur road, crossed Jumbo Creek, and ascended steep but open forest eastward until encountering snow at 2200 feet. We donned snowshoes and climbed to the ridge crest at the saddle between Salvation Peak and Oakes Peak, then made an undulating traverse along the crest to gain the summit (6.2 hours from car). Views were marvelous and totally dominated by nearby Mt. Triumph.
For our return, we followed our tracks back along the ridge crest and down the forest slope, using headlamps for the last couple hours, and arriving at our cars in early evening (4.2 hours from summit).
