I grew up in the heart of apple-growing country, so I’ve always had a fondness for vintage apple-box labels. Each local orchard or packing company had its own unique label, and these always featured wonderfully nostalgic artwork. Several years ago, I decided to create four retro-style labels using my own mountain photos. Below are the results of my fun little project.

The High Country brand apple label juxtaposes the distant pyramidal shape of Fortress Mountain and a nearby pyramidal tent, as seen from Louis Creek Basin in the Chiwawa Range, WA. I shot this photo during the fall of 2011 while doing the High Giant Traverse, which runs from Buck Creek Pass to High Pass to Little Giant Pass.

…
The Peak-bagger brand apple label features three scramblers reaching the craggy summit of Main Riddle Peak in the Stehekin Mountains, WA. I took this photo during a five-day climbing trip to the Tenmile Pass area above Holden in 2010.

…
The Climber brand apple label displays two silhouetted climbers belaying from a small notch on American Border Peak in the Nooksack Mountains, WA. I shot this photo shortly after sunset while descending AmBo Peak with Eileen and Fay in 2012.

…
The Snowfield brand apple label shows a lone trekker heading up the southern side of Mt. Anderson in the Olympic Mountains, WA. I snapped this photo during a three-day trip to climb Anderson’s east and west peaks with Eileen and six friends during 2011.
