Full Trip Report
Lisa, Kevin L, Rikki, and I joined Ira for a day hike to Rampart Lakes. We started from the Lake Laura Backdoor Trailhead in Rocky Run Valley and hiked up to Lake Lillian, then continued over Lillian Pass on a steep path.
- Lake Lillian
- Mt Rainier & Lake Lillian
An easy traverse around the headwaters of West Fork Box Canyon Creek took us past some pretty tarns and then up to Rampart Pass.
- Hiking Up To Rampart Pass
From the pass, we made a short sidetrip to climb 5870-foot Rampart Peak, which is the highest point on Rampart Ridge. This summit overlooks Rampart Lakes and Gold Creek Valley, and its huge western façade is quite conspicuous from Interstate 90.
- Rampart Lakes & Alta Mtn From Rampart Peak
Ira then took us on a scenic loop down to Rampart Lakes and back up a separate trail located east of Rampart Pass. We closed our loop at the West Fork tarns and returned to the trailhead to end a very pleasant day in the Keechelus Mountains.
