Full Trip Report
I spent a summery Saturday doing a climb of Hibox Peak with Eileen and My. Our conditions were perfect for this glamour peak: blue skies, balmy temps, and zero bugs. We hiked about 2 miles up the Rachel Lake Trail, then (starting in deep forest) ascended the steep climber’s path to the base of the summit block.
- Eileen & My Scrambling Up Summit Block
Despite the sheer and imposing look of the summit block’s southwestern facade, it is totally do-able via an elegant Class 2-3 scramble along the southeastern ridge.
- Snoqualmie Mountains and Park Lakes
We spent an all-too-short hour on the summit enjoying the great views. Having climbed Tourmaline Peak last weekend, I’d be tempted to say that these two summits may be the best viewpoints in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
- Lemah Mountain, Chimney Rock, and Glacier Peak
Tourmaline and Hibox give marvelous looks at the northern and southern sides of the major peaks, respectively, as well as at the surrounding peaks and lakes.
- Lila Lake and Alta Mountain
Of course, My and Eileen tried to give me something to look at too!
