A mountainous sub-region within the Southern Washington Cascades, bounded by Coldwater Lake, Coldwater Creek, Clearwater Creek, Muddy River, Swift Creek Reservoir, Lewis River, Merrill Lake, Fossil Creek, and Trouble Creek. In addition to Mt. St. Helens itself, notable landforms include Spud Mountain, Coldwater Peak, Mt. Margaret, Windy Ridge, Smith Creek Butte, Marble Mountain, and Goat Mountain.
